Back and Forth, Animation, Camera Cuts and So On

At this point, I am task switching at a higher frequency as I get closer to the finish line for my animated short. Yesterday was some animation fine-tuning. Today I was finalizing camera position and motion as well as camera cuts. Tomorrow will be back to finessing final primary animation movements and maybe syncing jaw movements to dialogue. That will leave the eyes to animate. Hopefully, I can get the animation tasks finalized in the next couple of days then move on to finalizing landscape elements.

Also worth noting, I was able to rerecord the dialogue today that I mentioned I was going to do in a previous post. I did get a warmer sound from my recording today. I still need to do a voice effects pass then output the WAV files. This time, I have the effects recipe written down so things should move along faster. In case you are curious, I use the Rode NT-USB Condenser Mic. Looks like it’s on sale right now. About $25.00 cheaper than I paid…of course.

I may not be too far from doing another test render in Unreal Engine 5. The most recent test render I did was during the first pass of cinematic lighting.

The screenshot below is from the UE5 Sequencer interface. You can see placeholder audio as well as a couple of additive layers on a control rig toward the bottom of the screenshot. I suggest the tutorial mentioned below if you want to learn more about using control rig additive layers. I mentioned this tutorial in a previous post that outlined some of my animation workflow.

Lastly, I believe the list of credits below is the full list of all assets I have used in this project. Thank you to all you talented artists out there. Thank you!

Introduction To Creating And Modifying Control Rig
This is another good tutorial for getting started with Control Rig in UE5. The instructor, Sonali Singh, has her own YouTube channel with a number of her tutorials focused on getting started with control rig in UE. Sonali does a great job of taking you step-by-step through a process.
