Robots Blossom – Project Update 020

Now that I have the morph targets exposed in Unreal Engine 5 Sequencer, I can start to animate them. But first, I realized the eyes are not showing very well in the cinematic environment lighting. Time to set up some cheat lights to accentuate the eyes!

I spent time today setting up the cheat lights as well as starting to animate the eyes morph targets. It was a short day. Tomorrow should be a full day effort and possibly even the day for my final render pass.

I mentioned in my last post that I did a second full render test pass. I completed the pass, added the EXR image files to DaVinci Resolve and rendered from DaVinci Resolve as a MOV file with no color grading. I was able to confirm the light flashes have been removed. Overall everything looks pretty good. I wasn’t able to do some test color grading before outputting the MOV file. I ran out of time. Tomorrow I will do some test color grading just to be sure I can get the look I want before completing the final render. Finish line is in sight!

The screenshot below shows the eyes slightly open with the cheat lighting applied. You will see the effect is very subtle in the cinematic lighting. I added the screenshot of the same scene in my working lighting setup so you can see the details of the eyes a bit better. I really like how the eyes have shutters like camera lens.
